Our customers trust in us:

100% protection of single-use bags

RoSS® stands for Robust Storage and Shipping. Our protective shell system is adapted from the oyster and has numerous advantages.

Due to a smart combination of materials, the single-use biocontainer has a 100% protective shell. The shells protect bags of any size and from any manufacturer. As closed tamper-evident system RoSS is stackable to increase storage density.

For particularly small volumes, such as in cell and gene therapy, RoSS.KSET is the perfect option.

  • Single Use Bag Independent

RoSS® shells are available for all established single-use bag manufacturers and filling volumes. Single-use bag vendor-agnostic RoSS® shells fosters flexibility and 100% compatibility – no system change required.

  • High Storage Density

RoSS® shells can be stacked one over another leading to huge savings in cold storage rooms and shipping costs and is easy to handle. The RoSS® shell maximizes your storage density and minimizes your worries of requiring storage space.

  • The frames of the RoSS® shell are made of heavy duty plastic that withstands even the lowest temperatures and makes up the static frame of RoSS® shell. Apart from the guide rails for the stainless steel top and bottom, the frame contains ergonomically shaped grip plates for safe and intuitive handling.

The RoSS® shell top and bottom lids are made of high quality stainless steel with the following three advantages:

    1. No product loss due to maximum durability and strength
    2. Ideal characteristics for an effective freezing and defrosting or thawing process
    3. Available for every single-use bag

  • Unique functionality and patented system:

    • Suitable for all 2D single-use bioprocess container
    • Robust, closed and tamper-evident construction
    • 3D foam set-up for complete immobilization <0 °C of bag and tubing
    • Space for sterile connectors and long hoses
    • Space for satellite samples / ID bags
    • Stainless steel plates on the top and bottom for consistent and quick freezing results
    • High density, which means a reduction of required freezer space capacity
    • Resisting vaporized hydrogen peroxide for decontamination without any long-term damage, visual changes or changes in the contact angle
    • Easy handling during the recycling process

FAQ

Can a sample bag be placed in the RoSS® shell?

+

Yes, sample bags of various sizes, from small to several 100 ml, can easily be placed a RoSS® shell. This provides tamper-evident protection for the sample bag. Upon request, RoSS® shell systems are available for sample bags exclusively. Learn more here.

Can RoSS® be partially filled?

+

Yes, any partial filling volume is possible with the patented RoSS® shell technology. Please read here about partial fill foams or contact our experts with regards to partial filling.

Which freezing technologies are compatible with the RoSS® shell?

+

The RoSS® shell can be used with a wide range of freezing technologies, including blast freezers, and plate-based freeze-thaw systems, as well as static laboratory freezers for storage.

For scalable manufacturing and consistent product quality, plate-based freezing offers significant advantages through improved temperature control and process standardization. Learn more about our Freeze-Thaw solutions.

When using shells for blast freezing consider a cryo control unit (CCU) as one accessory.

In which clean room categories can the RoSS® shell be used?

+

In all. In case of uncertainties, please contact us.

Is the RoSS® shell tamper-proof?

+

There is a variety of options to make the RoSS® shell tamper-evident.

Please read more here about label, cable ties and other types of tamper-evident options or contact our experts.

Can the RoSS® shell be reused?

+

In order to guarantee the highest possible protection of drug substances, we advise not to reuse the RoSS® shell. Read more about this in our Recycling Guide.

Do sterile connectors fit in the RoSS® shell?

+

Yes. In general, you can put a single-use bioprocess container with long tubing and sterile connectors into our RoSS® shells. Ask our experts if you have big sterile connectors attached.

Is RoSS® suitable for N2 applications?

+

Yes, RoSS® is suitable for temperatures up to -200°C (-328°F).

How does the Cryo Control Unit (CCU) support freezing applications?

+

The Cryo Control Unit (CCU) extends the compatibility of RoSS® shell systems with standard laboratory freezers and blast freezers. The insulated cover is designed to protect the shoulder area of the contained single-use bag, supporting controlled freezing conditions and greater flexibility across different freezing environments. Learn more about the CCU here..

Should I fill the biocontainer inside or outside the RoSS® shell?

+

Both options are possible. Either fill the bag and place it in the RoSS®System or place the empty bag in the system and fill it with a fully automated filling system, compact and with little air. Learn more aboutRoSS.FILL.
