RoSS.FRDG Plus is a portable ultra-cold storage freezer for frozen drug substances. The flexible freezer offers a range of set point temperature between -80°C and +8°C. 

Fridge for labs meets all requirements

The ultra cold storage freezer RoSS.FRDG is designed to meet the requirements of a fridge for labs: the laboratory fridge allows highest temperature stability down to -80°C, and is compatible with RoSS Shells to provide maximum protection for single-use bags.

In addition to its high flexibility, this lab fridge comes with great storage space, easy access and is stackable; also, RoSS.FRDG is scalable and therefore suitable to deliver enough space both as a fridge for labs and in bulk production and storage of biopharmaceuticals.

Manual defrost is not necessary to keep the freezer storage within the RoSS.FRDG frost-free, and with the temperature alarm, stainless steel surfaces, adjustable temperature down to -80° C and precise temperature control, this device delivers freezer space that is ready to meet both lab requirements and international regulations.

What are ultra cold freezers?

Ultra cold freezers, also known as ultra low temperature freezers or ULTs, are refrigerated that are designed to achieve temperatures as low as -40 to -86° C. They represent a significant component in the supply chain of various products, including most innovative biologics.

What is the coldest freezer you can buy?

While cold freezers achieve temperatures of -40 °C or lower, ultra cold freezers usually operate at temperatures between -40 and 86 °C. Thus, they are able to meet lab requirements, where temperatures around -85 °C have to be achieved.

What is the difference between a lab freezer and a fridge for lab?

Both the lab freezer and the fridge for labs work with extremely low temperatures. But while lab freezers are devices that are made to cool down specific goods to these low temperatures, fridges for labs are designed for the storage of the frozen goods in the appropriate temperature range.

Products stored and shipped this way include drug substances, monoclonal antibodies, mRNA and gene therapies, temperatures as low as -80°C.

However, there are certain products that need to be stored at even lower temperatures, such as cell therapies or gene-modified cell therapies: This is where cryogenic freezers come into place, with the RoSS.LN2F able to reach temperatures down to -180°C.

What is the difference between a household freezer and an ultra cold temperature freezer?

In contrast to the usual household chest freezers or upright freezers with wire baskets that can be found at various retailers including Amazon next to whirlpools and other rather ordinary household products, ultra cold temperature freezers are highly specialized devices far more powerful than fridge-freezers or the extra-freezer on casters. They can reach temperatures that household devices – even the bestselling, best chest freezers – cannot achieve with cold air from an ordinary compressor.

Although ULT freezers might share some typical functions with small chest freezers (like a power-on indicator light that helps to become aware of power outage), ultra low temperature freezers need not only to provide lower, but also more stable temperatures than a compact chest freezer, since it contains far more delicate substances.
