Process Overview_RoSS.SHIP (3)

Why should RoSS.SHIP be your shipping process in biopharma?

RoSS.SHIP holds up to 55 RoSS® shells – depending on its sizes – in a compact volume. Most frozen substances can be stored and shipped in a protected manner and in compliance with international standards.
The statically highly solid RoSS.SHIP stainless steel container is designed for passive cooling with cooling gel,  “phase change materials” (PCM), or dry ice pellets or blocks – depending on your temperature requirements and preferences.

For our RoSS.SHIPs both options, Top Loading and Front Loading are available. With Top Loading, easy re-icying is possible if the transport takes longer than planned without temperature excursion.

Optionally, the geographical location as well as the interior temperature of the RoSS-SHIP container can be tracked and monitored 24/7 via GPS or G-Force tracking.

What makes RoSS.SHIP so special for biopharma?

Tailor-made cold chain shipping solutions

Scalable – depending on how many and what type of RoSS shells there are to ship, RoSS.SHIP offers minimal storage volume for your individual need. Different shipper contain from one single RoSS® up to 55 shells.

Holding sub-zero temperature

RoSS.SHIP cold chain shipping box secures the cold chain storage and shipping of bulk drug substance below -60°C for at least 6 days. Suitable for both short distance, but also long distance air-freight with optional temperature monitoring.

International logistics requirements

Your frozen biopharmaceuticals can be stored and shipped in a protected manner and in compliance with international standards. Qualified based on ISTA/ASTM D4169

100% protective cold chain shipping container

Safety – thanks to the use of clever materials the single-use bag has a 100% protective shell. RoSS® including its SHIP stands for a safety upgrade for the biopharma process chain.

Ship your bulk drug substance

RoSS.SHIP secures the cold chain storage and shipping of temperature-sensitive bulk drug substance for almost one week. Tests have shown that the temperature inside RoSS.SHIP is below -60°C for consecutive six days. Therefore, the cold chain container is best suitable for both short distance, but also long distance transportation including air- freight and international shipping of substances.

  • With our RoSS systems
  • Keeps below -60°C for at least 6 days
  • Multi-use or single-use
  • For all freezing technologies

… to ensure 0% product loss during storing and transportation!

ROSS.KSET | Protecting small single-use bags

RoSS.KSET offers the protection for drug substances with volumes less than 250 mL. The shell of our CGT bag protection system is robust, closed, safe and sterile – most suitable for cell and gene therapies or clinical studies.

For larger volumes, RoSS can protect one or multiple single-use bags in one shell.

RoSS.RACK | Transport Devices

RoSS.RACKs are supporting devices for in-plant transport for up to 30 RoSS® shells. Racks can be moved easily either on paletts or as trolleys and smoothen the process between various logistics units, such as from filling RoSS® shells to the bulk substance freeze platform.

Bottle RoSS | Protecting Bottles

RoSS (Robust Storage and Shipping) can also be translated for PE rigid containers. With Bottle RoSS the tubings on bottles are protected at glass-like sub-zero temperatures with the help of a soft 3D foam which hardens at frozen state.

What is cold shipment?

Cold shipment is a specific way of transporting temperature-sensitive products. For the pharmaceutical industry, cold chain shipments are necessary when dealing with several biologics and medical supplies that would deteriorate at room temperature. Thus, dedicated pharmaceutical cold chain solutions like cold chain shipping containers are necessary in order to maintain a specific set of temperature and optimize shelf life for various goods, preserving them from the damaging impact of the otherwise too high ambient temperature.

To achieve this protection, the cold chain equipment must meet high standards, be it the insulation material of cooler boxes, ice boxes or other cold chain boxes.

What are some examples of cold chain transport?

An example for a product requiring ultra-cold transport in the pharma industry is mRNA vaccines; in order to maintain their quality, effectiveness and safety, they must leave the manufacturing site frozen down to temperatures around -80 °C, stored e.g. in ultra-cold storage freezers for long-range transport.

Other means used in the vaccine transport are various temperature-controlled containers like dedicated vaccine carriers, vaccine cold boxes or other kinds of transport boxes.

In addition to the achievable temperatures for products stored under temperature control, the vaccine storage capacity: The external dimensions of the single containers, e.g. need to be taken into consideration when optimizing storage density during cold chain shipping.

What is cold chain storage?

Cold chain storage describes preserving varoíous goods, e.g. different types of biopharmaceuticals, from deterioration in ambient temperature by storing them under cold temperatures. There are different temperature ranges that are put into place, depending on the specific product.

How long can products be kept in the cold chain shipping container RoSS.SHIP?

RoSS.SHIP is enabled to maintain temperatures below -60 °C for at least 6 days.

How can the RoSS.SHIP be loaded?

For RoSS.SHIP cold chain transport container, both top- and front-loading options are available.

What is cold supply chain?

A cold supply chain is put into place for temperature-sensitive products like several biologics, e.g. vaccines, but also for other perishable products, like deep-frozen food, which must not be stored at room temperature, but rather in cold storage. Whether to choose simple refrigeration, thermal packaging or ultra-cold storage depends on a product’s specific needs; often, regulatory requirements ask for a specific temperature range to be observed.

When pharmaceutical products demand a temperature-controlled environment, healthcare providers, medical suppliers, researchers in life sciences and manufacturers must rely on a professional cold chain management with the respective cold chain technologies, including cold chain packaging solutions and cold chain shipping solutions like cold chain storage boxes, reusable insulated containers or cold packs, such as gel packs or ice packs.
